    Elizabeth Cheshire: she lived at Flamstead. On 6 June he was at Dunstable Market standing against the stall of Hall the confectioner. It was between 10 and 11am. Mr Hall asked if she had lost anything out of her pocket. She put her hand in her pocket and there was a paper which had been in her pocket hanging partly out. She found a half penny was gone. She looked on the ground and picked up halfpenny. The prisoner was standing close to her at the time. Eliza Jackson picked up a penny and said Mrs Cheshire here’s a penny, which she had just picked up. When Mr Hall asked her if she had lost anything he said had seen the girls hand in her pocket. Edward Hall: he was a confectioner at Leighton Buzzard. On 6 June he was at Dunstable Market. He was keeping a stall there. Mrs Cheshire and the prisoner were standing by his stall. He saw the prisoner with a hand in Mrs Cheshire’s pocket and she was lifting the pocket up with her other hand. He asked Mrs Cheshire if she had lost anything out of her pocket. Mrs Cheshire looked and said she had lost some halfpenny. He had seen the prisoner several times before and did not know her name. He was positive he saw her hand in Mr Cheshire’s pocket. Eliza Jackson: she was the wife of Thomas Jackson and lived at Kensworth. She was at Dunstable market and standing near Mr Hall’s stall. She heard him ask Mrs Cheshire if she had lost anything and told her he had seen the prisoners hand in her pocket. She saw a penny fall from the bottom of the prisoners shawl. The prisoners hand was under the shawl. She picked up the penny and gave it to Mrs Cheshire. Statement of the accused: she did not do it.
