- Scope and ContentWilliam Crawley of Holwell, yeoman – he occupies a farm at Holwell. On 12 March Erle was thrashing peas for him in his barn. He watched Erle when he went home to breakfast and saw him fill one of his pockets with peas and put some into a bag and carry them home with him. He thinks Erle had about 2 quarts of peas. He watched Erle again when he went home for dinner and saw him take about the same amount of peas again. Erle put some into a bag and the rest into a bag which he put into his hat. Erle put it on his head and went away with them. When Erle got into the road he called him back into the yard and charged him with stealing some peas which he denied. He then searched Erle and found about two quarts of peas. The pears were worth about 5s a bushel. Richard Erle – “I own I had those peas but I never took any others”.
