Samuel Fuller: he had 4 ducks on Beeston Green on 2 December. He missed them the next day. He suspected 4 people. The prisoner Jeeves was too ill to attend before the magistrates with the other 3 accused. William Andrews: a carrier of Sandy. He was sitting up with his wife who was ill on 2 December. He saw 2 men at the pond and saw them kill 4 of Mr Fuller’s ducks. One duck got away. William Leighton and Jesse Francis were the men. There were 2 others who stood about 50 yards off and Leighton and Francis joined them. The other 2 men were watching. He could not swear to Jeeves being one of those men who was looking at the ducks being killed. He saw 4 men put the ducks in their pockets but could not say if each man had one and then they separated. 2 men went one way and 2 the other. PC William Breakwell: On 7 December Mr Fuller advised him of the loss of the ducks and told him he suspected Leighton and Francis. He apprehended 4 people on Mr Fuller charge and 2 of the parties had been committed. The prisoner Jeeves was one of the 4 apprehended but was too ill to attend with the others before the magistrate. All 4 men said they had taken the ducks when first apprehended.
