    John Say: a shoemaker living in Stagsden. On 4 December about 5pm he left a watch hanging in his sop. He left no one in the shop. His apprentice Charles Osborn left with him and he returned to the shop after three quarters of an hour later. Osborn got back first. He had not locked the door of the shop. He missed the watch as soon as he got into the shop. On 5 December PC Aldridge showed him the watch as well as a pairs of lasts, some shoe tops and some bits of leather. He missed these. PC Ephraim Aldridge: in consequence of information received he went in pursuit of the prisoner. He traced him to Rushden and apprehended him there. He told him the charge and took him into custody. He searched the prisoner and found a silver watch on his person. In a bundle, in the house where he had apprehended the prisoner, he found a pair of high shoe tops, 6 pieces of leather and a pair of lasts. The prisoner said he had intended to take them back.
