    Pious ideas about education : what he can offer at Aspley for the education of van der Smissen's sons 'my eldest son continues with me (& there is no present prospect of his settling elsewhere). If I live we may perhaps jointly in some measure answer the expectations of our friends with respect to the English language, & I have a tolerable collection of French books which may be read with improvement, besides the opportunity of being instructed by the French master from the School in this village, which is in a very flourishing state' ... some authors on mercantile geography ... Spanish could only be learned in London, & residence in London would be morally very dangerous.
