Scope and Content
Has sent 2nd volume of Medical Society Memoirs & some seeds. The decision of the House of Commons on the slave trade forms a new epoch in the history of ethics. Flourishing situation in France. When I came of age I possessed 50 slaves & some land: when the land was sold & applied to family debts there was still £500 owing but nevertheless I gave my negroes their liberty. Printed chart : "A Moral & Physical Thermometer, or a scale of the Progress of Temperance & Intemperance", giving a list of liquors, beginning with water & ending with gin & brandy, etc. with corresponding physical & moral effects.
