Benjamin Savage of St John, Bedford, victualler – he lives at the Saracens Head in the parish of St John. He knows both the defendents. They came to his house on 5 September. Gore came about 11am and said he had come for 2 gallons of ale to go to Mr Berrill’s farm. He asked Gore whether they were threshing with a machine at Mr Berrill’s farm. Gore said no. He put the ale in a wooden bottle and gave it to Gore. He has been in the habit of sending beer to Mr Berrill’s farm for which Mr Berrill has paid him. Gore has been to his house before for ale in this way. In the afternoon White came to his house about 4pm and brought back his bottle. White said he wanted two more gallons of ale for Mr Berrill’s farm. He put the ale into the bottle and gave it to White. White returned the bottle and pot about 10pm. White said “we’ll meet and pay for it on Saturday night”. Neither White nor Gore paid him for the beer. Joseph White – he never said it was going to Mr Berrill’s farm. It was going to Mr Berrill’s field.
