At the inquest the coroner ordered Turvey to touch the corpse,'as people hereabouts have a great notion a body will bleed if touched by the murderer' .... 'It is to be remarked that the market bell which used to be rung at 8 o'clock when tradesfolks leave work, was that night rung about 7 by the contrivance of some who wanted to be at liberty sooner than usual ...' ' A cat jumped off a bank onto a man’s shoulder halfway from Woburn to Aspley & he was no able to disengage himself till he arrived. which has caused the old women to speculate that he is bewitched...'
