- Scope and ContentMary Spencer: a widow living at the School House in Sharnbrook. An umbrella had been left in the porch of the schoolroom at Sharnbrook. The prisoner came to the schoolroom begging but she did not give her anything. The prisoner had matches to sell and she bought some from her. She went into the house and shut the door and afterwards saw the prisoner pass by the window. Ann Single: she had gone to school at Sharnbrook and taken an umbrella with her. She had left it in the porch of the school house. When she went for it after school it had gone. The umbrella shown to her by Mr Graham was the same umbrella. William Byers Graham: superintendent of the Bedfordshire Rural Police and living at Sharnbrook. From information received he apprehended the prisoner on suspicion of stealing the umbrella. At first the prisoner said she had brought the umbrella from London and afterwards said her husband had exchanged it with a person on the road. He showed the umbrella to Ann Single who identified it.
