- Scope and ContentWilliam Hyde: he was at work on Mr Levitt’s land at Stotfold on 25 September and when he left work that night he left a rack, 2 scythes, a rubstone and a bag under a stack. On 27 September he went to work again and only found the scythes and one of the handles had been taken from it. The rack, rubstone, bag and a handle were lost. George Bowskill was at work with him. George Bowskill: he was at work with William Hyde and saw him put the scythes and rubber under the stack and put the rack underneath. They did not work for Levitt on Tuesday but on Wednesday morning the things had gone. They had put 2 scythes there and the neb had been taken from his. PC Jesse Walker: a policeman stationed at Arlesey. On 28 September he received information regarding some items missed from a field in Stotfold. He asked Hyde if he suspected anyone and he replied he thought John Millard had taken them. That morning he went over the fields at Stotfold where Millard was at work and found the rubstone and case on his [?]. The handle was fixed on a scythe and the rack was lying by his side. Millard was sitting on a cart and appeared to have just finished his dinner. Statement of the accused: nothing to say.
