  • Scope and Content
Lucknow, 3rd June 1862 My Darling Katie, I have written such a fat letter to your dear mama this month that I cannot afford to send more than a very few lines in answer to your last nice letter of April 1st. it was a very great pleasure to me my darling child to hear so often from you and I have no doubt you do not find writing quite so tedious a business as you once did. I am very sorry there is no prospect of my being able to return home yet, but you must be very thankful to God that He has given you so good and kind a Mama to be with you as you know very many children who have come from India do not see their parents until they are quite grown up. So you do not like my having a beard, Katie dear, I am sorry for it as I don’t think I shall ever go without one again. I want you to tell me when you write again how you liked your dancing lessons at Tingrith, and the name of the little gentleman who was so polite to you! I shall expect to hear very often about the chestnut mare and little foal and whether you think Wynter takes good care of it. I hope dear Prue is well and that he will not become too old or forget his master when he comes home after his wanderings. Mind you give my kind remembrances to Miss Easter. I suppose she will be about starting for her holiday when this reaches you, and you will I dare say go with Min and dear mama somewhere. And now my darling child good bye & God bless you.
