  • Scope and Content
My dear Katie, Your dear Mama has told me that you still keep in your work box the first little note your dear Papa ever wrote you two years ago – she also tells me that you are a very good child and are improving in your lessons and can now read easy books. Papa is made very happy when he hears that his darling Katey is so good, and so he treats her to another letter as a reward – she must ask dear Mama to help her to read it, and when it is finished, she may ask Mama to give her a shilling. And now, darling Katey, you must learn to write very quick, so that you may soon answer dear Papa’s letter. Be a very good girl, love to your dear mama, Grandpapa and Grandmama, and be very obedient to them all, and mind you always love and take care of your little sister Minnie, and love her dearly, and when you tell me that she can read too Papa will send her a shilling also. Give her a nice kiss from her dear Papa and tell her to run to mama and ask for sixpence. God Bless you my darling Katey, and mind you think every day of your loving papa, John H Brooks.
