Returns from schools which carried on with a policy of corporal punishment despite an Education Committee resolution of 1984 against the practice; returns are the answers to a questionnaire which contains the following questions:

- does the school have a corporal punishment policy?; - if no corporal punishment policy, did abolition precede or follow the decision of the Education Committee of 1984?; - how many times was corporal punishment administered and on how many different pupils prior to 29 Mar 1984?; - what alternative sanctions have been used since corporal punishment was abolished in Jan 1985?; - were all sanctions employed prior to the abolition of corporal punishment?; - if answer to previous question was no, has their use increased?; - if answer to previous question was yes, what is evidence of increase of use of sanctions?; - what effects has abolition had on the life and operation of the school?; - if the Education Committee request was not complied with, how many times and on how many pupils was corporal punishment administered in Mar 1985 compared with Mar 1984?.
