- Scope and ContentWilliam Lawton Wykes of Sharnbrook, baker – at the latter end of March 1840 he lost 2 quartern loaves, value 16d, from his cart while it was standing at the door of the Falcon Inn at Bletsoe. He applied for a warrant to apprehend Riseley immediately but Riseley ran away from the neighbourhood. Eli Norman of Bletsoe, labourer – he saw Thomas Riseley, who was then living at Bletsoe, steal 2 loaves from Mr Wykes’ cart. He spoke to Riseley at the time and told Mr Wykes and Mrs Bennett at the Falcon what he had seen. This was about 4 years ago. William Byers Graham of Sharnbrook, superintendent of police – last Sunday (7 April) Riseley was apprehended by his directions at Higham Ferrers. He charged him with stealing the bread 4 years ago. Riseley said “I know I am guilty of that – that’s what I am afraid of”. Thomas Riseley – has nothing to say.
