- Scope and ContentWilliam Phillips of Steppingley, victualler – he is a publican at Steppingley. On Sunday November 19 Sherwood was in his house drinking. His shot bag and powder horn were on the shelf. On the following morning he missed them both. He told George Love that he had lost them. That morning (November 27) George Love sent for him to come and look at a shot bag he had taken from Sherwood who had been caught poaching. He can swear it is his. George Love of Flitwick, gamekeeper – he is gamekeeper to the Duke of Bedford. Sherwood was brought to his house having been caught by his men trespassing in search of game. He had a gun in his pocket and also a shot bag. Phillips had previously told him he had lost one. As soon as Phillips came to his home he identified it. He heard Sherwood acknowledge he had stolen it from Phillips. William Sherwood – declined to say anything.
