- Scope and ContentWilliam Spendlove of Leighton Buzzard, draper – his shop is in the High Street. On 7 December he had flannel vests outside his shop in a bundle. On the following Thursday he missed 7 of the vests. There were two kinds of vests there. He believes the vest produced is one of them. Isaac Cook, police constable stationed at Heath and Reach – on 25 January he went with Sergeant Olden to Kempster’s house at Leighton and asked if he had bought a Guernsey. Kempster said he had bought one from his brother Fred. He went upstairs and brought down the Guernsey produced. Kempster said he had given 2s for it on a Saturday night a fortnight and 3 days before Xmas. Fred Smith was committed to trial yesterday on a charge of stealing the Guernsey. William Kempster, alias Smith – “I am very sorry Sir to think that I have come up it is my first time and I’ll never come again”.
