Letitia Carter: wife of Charles Carter, tailor of Biggleswade. She lived with her brother Ellis Pigott Jeakings, a boot manufacturer. On 3 December the prisoner came into the shop. She was in the shop with her brother. The prisoner asked her brother if she could take some boots for her husband to try on. Asked her name, the prisoner said she was Mrs Daniells and lived in Inn Street and that her husband worked for Dan Albone as a smith. Pates said they had not been in the town quite 12 months and that she would bring back the boots in half an hour. The prisoner said that Mrs Brittain, her next door neighbour, had recommended her and her husband had seen the boots outside and they were the kind he wanted. Believing her statement to be true she let her have 2 pairs of boots to the value of £1 1s 6d. She had parted with the goods as a result of the statements made by the prisoner. John Albone: lived in Biggleswade with his father. On 3 December he was in Shortmead Street when the prisoner came to him and asked him if he knew where the pawn shop was. She asked him to pawn 2 pairs of boots for her. He agreed and she told him she was Mrs Daniells of Caldecote and he was to get 3s 6d on each pair. On returning from the pawnshop, he went to the prisoner in the street and gave her the money and the pawn tickets. She gave him half a penny. Frederick Smith: superintendent of police in Biggleswade. On 5 December he took the prisoner into custody on a warrant. The prisoner replied she had had the boots and that he name had been Daniells before she married. Statement of the accused: nothing to say.
