  • Title
    Bedford deeds.
  • Scope and Content
By the middle of the sixteenth century most of the documents relating to Bedford are conveyances to or leases by the Forde family, who were for a time owners of the White Hart Inn in the High Street. From ref AD658 we know that in 1585 William Forde sold the White Hart and land and cottages to Alexander Hunte, who in 1588 sold to John Yarrowe of Biddenham. William Boteler III must have bought them soon after this, as in 1602 he died possessed of the White Hart. All the early Bedford deeds have been put here. It is not evident that the Dyve family purchased property in Bedford, whereas by 1543 the Botelers already had 80 acres of land.
