- Scope and ContentEliza Rixon, wife of George Rixon of Dunstable, licensed victualler – her husband is the landlord of the Plume of Feathers, West Street, Dunstable. Hendric came to their house on 1 November and lodged there. On 4th she gave her 3 sheets to hem. She received 2 back on the 11th and Hendric promised to return the 3rd when she had finished it. She asked for the 3rd sheet and Hendric at first said she had given it to her and then said perhaps she had pawned it as there is a shop down Church Street. She then sent for the police. Benjamin George of Dunstable, superintendant of police – Hendric was given into his custody by George Rixon. The door of her room at the Plume of Feathers was forced open by George Rixon the landlord and the room searched in his presence. Hendric was very insolent. He was obliged to use some force in taking her to the station. She stated that she had taken the sheet to a shop in Church Street, and another time said she had returned it to Mrs Rixon. Since she had been at the police station she had behaved strangely – he had her examined by Mr Beart and Dr Murphy. Henry Tofield of Dunstable, police constable - he was present at the examination that morning by Dr Murphy, who would not certify Hendric was insane. Caroline Hendric – Mrs Rixon gave her 3 sheets. She took one sheet down. She put the other two in Mr Rixon’s box in a coloured tablecloth.
