Walter Scott: a blocker living at 121 Castle Street, Luton. He worked for Charles Plummer of Bute Street. On 5 July about 10.15am he left the iron in blockhouse. Next morning, on returning to work, he missed the iron. He saw the window shutter had been forced and the window opened. The blockhouse joined the main buildings under the same roof. He had used the same iron for 9 years. He informed the police and saw it again at Gale’s pawnshop. John Plummer: a blocker living in Upper Dumfries Street and employed by Charles Plummer. He left about 7pm on Tuesday and fastened the shutters by the bolts from inside and he locked the door. Scotts iron was there. On Wednesday morning he found the shutter forced and the window open. Scott’s iron was gone. Sidney Harris: on Wednesday about 8.45pm, Toyer brought in the iron to pawn, saying it was his brothers. He recognised Toyer and told him to go and fetch his brother. In the meantime, Harris advised the police. Toyer left the iron with Harris and did not rerun with his brother. He was present when Scott identified the iron. Detective William Chamberlain: on 8th, whilst in custody, he charged the prisoners with stealing the iron. Both replied they knew nothing of it. Statement of the accused: Milemore had been with him when he took the iron. Milemore had got the iron before he had got down the passage.
