- Scope and ContentTo the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of St Paul, Bedford. It has been duly made to appear unto me Thomas Davies Esquire, one of Her Majesty's Justices of the peace in and for the said Borough and for Samuel Wing, Clerk to the Board of Guardians of the Bedford Union that by an order under the hands and seals of George Peter Livius and John Green, two of her Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the said Borough bearing date 2nd April 1841 Mary Ashton widow, a pauper then actually chargeable to the said parish of St Paul was ordered to be removed from the said parish of Stanwick in the County of Northampton as the place of her last legal settlement but the execution of which order of removal wa by the said Justices by Indorsement on the said order suspended for the reason therein expressed. And further that it appeared to John Brereton, Clerk and George Peregrine Nash two of her Justices of the Peace for the Borough of Bedford that she the said Mary Ashton died in or about the month of August last and that the sum of £24.7.0 had been incurred by the suspension of the said order. By a subsequent order (endorsed on the said order of removal) under the hands of the last mentioned Justices bearing date 30th August 1844 they did order and direct the Overseers and Churchwardens of Stanwick to pay the said sum. to the Overseers and Churchwardens of St Paul and the sum duly demanded from William Ashby the Younger, Overseer of Stanwick by Samuel Wing on 4th September last has beenand still has neglected to be paid and no notice of appeal had been made.
