- Scope and ContentRemoval Order for Louisa Travis, wife of Thomas Travis they younger and her five children named Louisa aged 11 years, David aged 9 years, Amelia aged 7 years, Ruth aged 3 years and Lucretia aged nine months. Removed from Clifton to Elstow. Settlement Examination of Louisa, wife of Thomas Travis the younger: I am now living in the parish of Clifton in the County of Bedford and am chargeable to it. My husband has deserted me about two months ago. I do not know where he is now living as I have not seen him since. I have five children living at thome with me Louisa aged 11 years, David aged 9 years, Amelia aged 7 years, Ruth aged 3 years and Lucretia aged nine months. I was married to my husband on 19th March 1834 at the parish church at Blunham in Bedfordshire. He was at that time and for two years afterwards living in his fathers house at Elstow in Bedfordshire. I am not aware that he ever did any act to gain a settlement for himself. Examination of Thomas Travis the elder on his oath saieth: Thomas Travis the younger is my son. He is now about 36 years old. He lived at home with me till he was 24 years old when he married and for two years afterwards. I do not think he ever gained settlment for himself. My settlment is in Elstow in the County of Bedford. Twenty one yeras ago my uncle died and I then entered upon his house at Elstoe in the County of Bedford and have continued in it ever since. It belongs to Mr William Henry Whitbread. I rent it of him and have rented it of him ever since my Uncles death from year to year at the rent of £11.5.0 a year, and I have occupied the house under that hiring and paid all the rent all that time. I have also been rated to and have paid all the parish rates all the time. The house consists of a separate and distinct dwelling house. I have lived in the said house in Elstow all the time. Information and complaint of John Sole, Overseer of Clifton requesting the removal of Louisa Travis, wife of Thomas Travis they younger and her five children named Louisa aged 11 years, David aged 9 years, Amelia aged 7 years, Ruth aged 3 years and Lucretia aged nine months to the place of their legal settlement. Certificate of Chargeability by Biggleswade Board of Guardians (interleved with above) certifying that Louisa Travis, wife of Thomas Travis they younger and her five children named Louisa aged 11 years, David aged 9 years, Amelia aged 7 years, Ruth aged 3 years and Lucretia aged nine months became chargeable on 11th March 1846.
