Essoins William Benett The Homage or the xij [12] Sworn Men John Ryseley John Yarwey Thomas Clerke William Wale John Smythe Robert Osmond Christopher Myton John Warner Thomas Smalwood Edward Clayton Edmund Warner Thomas Byngham Suit of Court Who say on their oath that Nicholas ijd [2d] Luke Esquire the first Baron of the Exchequer of the lady Queen, John iiijd [4d] Aleyn Esquire, John ijd [2d] Gostwyk son of Edward Gostwyk deceased, owed Suit of Court and made default. Therefore they are amerced. Strays Also the aforesaid Sworn Men present that [illegible] two sheep came as strays within this demesne and have remained for more than a year. And they have been valued by the Sworn Men at vs [5s] Land silver And furthermore they present that they gave vs viijd [5s 8d] as land silver to the lord today, with jx [9] pieces of land held by Thomas Foster Common Fines And the named present that they gave xiiijd [14d] to the lord as Common Fines this day Decay of the Wheel of the Mill Also the aforesaid Sworn Men present that Thomas Lynwood, the Miller of the Mill of Willyngton, took out the axle beam of the same Mill and the wheel called the Ichale of the same Mill and that the same Mill is ruined because of the neglect of the same Thomas. Therefore he is at mercy to the lord. Penalty for unringed pigs It was ordered by the Sworn Men that the Tenants are prohibited and should not permit their pigs to be unringed or insufficiently pegged after the feast of Saint Martin the bishop in winter next following [November 11th] under a penalty of iiijd [4d] forfeited to the lord of this Manor for whichever pigs are not ringed. Penalty put It was ordered that the farmers provident’ that [they] do not keep [illegible] on the Common Pastures of this township over and above the minimum term as approved [illegible] under a penalty of vs [5s] forfeited to the lord. Penalty put It was ordered that the farmers provident’ who do not keep [illegible] on the said Common Pastures of this township nor as above and also that John Ryseley should not keep one [illegible] under a penalty of vs [5s] forfeited to the lord. Penalty put It was ordered that no person shall keep or try to keep anything spadans on the aforesaid Common pastures of this township after the feast of Pentecost next in the future [illegible] under a penalty of iiijd [4d] forfeited to the lord by the tenants written above. Penalty put It was ordered that any pigs belonging to the inhabitants of Cople should not come [illegible] pay [illegible] that they forfeit to the lord for each pig [illegible] viijd [8d] Baker of bread The aforesaid Sworn Men present that John iiijd [4d] Couper of the town of Bedford is a common baker of bread and has [illegible] and has broken the assize. Therefore he is amerced iiijd [4d] Election of Constable John Smythe was elected into the office of Constable and sworn in and will execute the aforesaid office.
