    Roll 56 Court of Katherine Duchess of Norfolk held there on Wednesday next after the feast of St. Mark the Evangelist [25th April] in the xiiijo [14th] year of the reign of King Edward iiijti [fourth] Thomas Rokys being steward [27th April 1474] Essoins Richard Langton, through the bailiff The homage, sworn men John Yarewey the elder Randolph Baudewyn John Wareyn' John Clerk John Flaunders John Bardolf Nicholas Wareyn’ John Bole Henry Parcar William Flaunder Thomas Baylemont John Noreys Penalty forfeited iijs iiijd [3s 4d] Who say on their oath that John Odehyll has not repaired his barn [annotated and other buildings near the road] as he was ordered. Therefore he forfeits the penalty made at the last court. with penalty And the said John was ordered to mend [them] before the next court under a penalty of five shillings. Penalty forfeited iijs iiijd [3s 4d] And they say that the said John ploughed one strip of one division called a Common Baulk which was the Lady’s from Teysditch as far as the way to the church . Penalty Therefore he incurs a penalty of iijs iiijd [3s 4d]. And he is ordered to put it right before the next court under a penalty of vjs viijd [6s 8d] Penalty forfeited vjs viijd [6s 8d] And they said that the said John should forfeit the penalty made at the last court because he has not repaired his gates next to the king’s road. Penalty Therefore he incurs the penalty of vjs viijd [6s 8d] and he was ordered to mend the said gates under a penalty of xs [10s] Day of death with days given Also they said that John Myton, who held certain lands from the lady closed the days of his existence after the day of the last court on the Sunday next before the Feast of the Purification of the blessed Virgin Mary [2nd February] in the xiijo [30th January 1474] year of Edward iiijo [4th] whose heir is John Myton, the chaplain, and so he came to court and said that he owed no other services to the Lady except suit of court at the feast of saint Michael the Archangel. Therefore a day was given for enquiry by the tenants until the next court. Day closed with a day was given Also John Coke who held certain lands from the Lady closed his existence after the day of the last court, on the Wednesday next after the feast of saint Laurence [3rd February]in the aforesaid year [9th February 1474] and that Robert Coke is his nearest heir and of full age. But it is not known what lands he possesses. And therefore a day was given as above. Penalty penalty Also Katherine Cruce was ordered to mend her hall, by the threshold, before Easter [10th April] under a penalty of xxd [20d] Also John Odehill was ordered to put right one Hedge round one strip between the land of Robert Gostwyk and the land of the said John which he holds from the lady at will, before the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist [24th June], under a penalty of iijs iiijd [3s 4d] Taking land To this court came Richard Myton and took one cottage from the lady, lately held by Christopher Malton with viij [8] acres of plough land lying in Welyngton with the right to be devised or bequeathed, by the pledge of the steward, [who] granted siesin. To have and to hold by himself and his wife Cristiane and their heirs, at the will of the lady, rendering therefrom to the lady viijs [8s] annually and suit of Court. And he made fealty and was admitted as tenant. And furthermore the said Richard took from the lady one ix [9] acres of land lately belonging to Walter Yarewy with the right to be devised or bequeathed, by the pledge of the steward [who] granted seisin. To have as above, rendering therefrom to the lady vjs viijd [6s 8d] and suit of Court To this court came Katherine, lately the wife of Nicholas Cruce and surrendered one messuage and ten acres of land with appurtenances in Welyngton, into the hand of the steward. And on this John Bardolf came and took them, to have and to hold by himself [annotated and Alice his wife and their heirs] at the will of the lady and rendering therefrom xs [10s] and suit of Court annually. And also the said John took eight acres of land, lately yerweyslond, to have and to hold by himself, and Alice his wife, and their heirs, according to the custom of the manor, rendering iijs iiijd [3s 4d] a year, and suit of Court. To this court came George Claydon and took from the lady one messuage lately held by Richard Langton, with x [10] acres of land and meadow, with the right to be devised or bequeathed, by the pledge of the steward granting seisin.
