Indictment - John Stevenson for falsely pretending to Thomas Balmforth that he was a representative of the firm of Galloway and Company of Manchester engaged in putting down an air pump at the water works at St Albans and was negotiating with Dixons of St Albans, millers, for an engine and boiler, by means of which he obtained from Thomas Balmforth £1. Previously convicted on 14 April 1874 at Ludlow (Salop) of obtaining money by false pretences. Plea guilty. Sentence 5 years penal servitude to run consecutively with other sentence imposed. 5 years police supervision.
