Charles White: a builder living at Dunstable Road in Luton. He had a workshop and yard at Bury Park Road and on 12 July about 2.30pm he saw the prisoners in his yard. He saw a bag in their possession and the ‘blue’. Scott said he had bought it from Chambers. Scott’s hand were coloured and Baldwin had colour on his cheek. White went into the shop and saw the blue paint split along the ground. When White said he would send for a policeman, Scott asked him not to and said he would pay half a sovereign. Baldwin said he knew nothing about it. Charles White the younger: son of the last witness and also in the building trade. On the morning of 12 July, Scott said he was going to paint the body of his cart blue. From instructions he received from his father, White went to Champkins shop and asked if any dry blue had been sold that day. He was told no. He noticed that Scott had a strip of blue on his face at dinner time. PC George Bozeat: he was sent for by the prosecutor and handed the bag and paint. He serahced for the prisoners and found them working together. He took Baldwin into custody and he said he knew nothing of it. When taking Scott into custody, Scott said he would not have taken it if Baldwin had not told him where it was. Statements of the accused: nothing to say.
