Constables Robert Cook, John Flaundrers, Tithing men John Yarwey the elder Randolph Bawdewyn John Ferthyng Walter Yarwey John Yarwey the younger Richard Wyneld John Tyler’ John Norman John Taylour John Salt John Stones John Couper vijs vjd [7s 6d] Amercement iiijd [4d] The Sworn Men present that they gave vijs vjd [7s 6d] as common fine on this day. vjs vd [6s 5d] was paid in silver, jd [1d] fealty remains in the hands of John Clerk, John Morborn, John Smyth and Thomas Gebonn. And that John Maryon iiijd [4d] made an assault and a certain house-breaking upon upon [sic] Thomas Gybon with one pitchfork valued at ijd [2d]. Therefore he is amerced. And that John Gostwyk holds an overflowing ditch below his holding, however he asked [for it] to be adjourned to the next [court]. And that John Clerk has a stopped up ditch causing nuisance at the Rabbit Warren. Therefore he is ordered to put it right before the next. Repairs And that one building in the holding of John Clerk is ruined and the lord requires him to repair [it]. Therefore the bailiff was ordered to provide for the repairs. And that the tenement in which Robert Partrych stays is ruined and the bailiff says that the Receiver General of the Council says the same Robert should pay xls [40s] for making the aforesaid repairs, xxs [20s] for this year and xxs [20s] next year. That thereafter it is to be always provided by the plaintiff, and he should provide sufficient security for payment. And now the bailiff presents that he has not provided security. Therefore the bailiff was ordered to take possession of all his goods and chattels whatsoever, being within the demesne, to provide sufficient maintenance for making the aforesaid repairs or willows as payment as permitted. And that for the old timber fallen down in the holding lately belonging to Fesants, was valued by the tenants at xijd [12d] and allowed to John Salt to make one Pigsty in his holding which he held from the lord etc. Also Nicholas Creus has timber from out of the same, the tenants valued it at xvjd [16d] for making one Stable in his holding which he holds from the lord. And the old timber lying in the holding lately held by John Myton is valued at vjd [6d] and allowed to John Redy to make therefrom one Pigsty, on payment to the lord. Also it was allowed to John Salt part of the same timber valued at vjd [6d] for repairing his barn b. Also it was allowed to John Yarwey the elder, by the order of the Receiver General one foundation beam and iij [3] trees for studs from the Shyrehache for repairing his malt-kiln. Also it was allowed to John Yarwey the younger, from the aforesaid wood, xij [12] trees to repair his barn, by order of the Steward. And it was allowed to John Taylour xx [20] laths from Shyrehach for necessary repairs to his barn. And the bailiff was ordered to allow one rood of underwood to the same to put right the clasps for the thatch of the same barn. Amercement xijd [12d] John Cook and John Myton, tasters of ale there, present thatAlicia Stoughton vjd [6d], John Redy vjd [6d] brewed constantly and broke the assize of ale Amercement vijd [7d] And that Robert Cook iijd [3d] [brewed] twice, John Clerk ijd [2d] once, Robert Taylour ijd [2d] once and broke the assize of ale. Therefore they are amerced. Taking land William Couper came to this Court and took one Cottage, lately held by John Teele, from the lord. To be held by himself, his wife and their sons for the term of their lives and of whichever of them lives longest, according to the custom of the manor, rendering therefrom xijd [12d] in silver, a year, at the usual terms there. And the said William Couper will well and suitably repair and sustain the said Cottage at his own expense. And the lord will provide timber and withies. And no heriot after their deaths or withdrawal. And they owe suit of Court twice a year and he made fealty to the lord. Taking Randolph Bawdewyn came to this court and surrendered into the lord’s hand the adjacent land lately in the holding of William Wryght from which he was accustomed to render xs [10s]. And on this John Taylour came and took the said holding with land and other adjacent appurtenances, to be held by himself for [torn corner and gap in writing on the next line] years, rendering therefrom a year, as the aforesaid Randolph was accustomed to render, and putting right and repairing all the buildings being on the said holding at his own expense except that the lord will provide timber and withies. And he owed fealty as above and made [it] to the lord. Xij [12] sworn men John Cook Robert Taylor William Taylour John Redy John Myton John Passewater William Shaxton Nicholas Crewse Robert Warner William Sterlyng Robert Bawde Robert Partrych Amercement iiijd [4d] They present that Robert Partrych iiijd [4d] has stopped up the common way of the tenants at Partrycheshegge. Therefore he is at mercy of the lord. And he was ordered to put it right before the next Lete under a penalty of xld [40d]. Also they present that Thomas Gybon took excessive toll. Therefore he is at mercy of the lord. John Redy, John Tyler were elected as Constables for this year. In expenses of the steward and other tenants and visitors vijs iijd [7s 3d] And the bailiff was ordered that he should provide and supervise that all the above timber is well and faithfully dispensed under the details intimated. Sum of this Court ixs ixd [9s 9d] Memorandum The Wylyngton mill will remain as shown for the space of ix [9] weeks for certain repairs and makings of the same.
