And that the Prior of Newnham [annotated, a day] and Geoffrey Aubrey ijd [2d] made default and were at mercy. And William Pecke ijd [2d] the same Amercement xviijd [18d] penalty Also they present that John Maryon ijd [2d] [annotated, put right] has one ditch outside the gate of the Coppydhall overflowing causing a nuisance. Therefore he is amerced. And that Richard Lygtfot ijd [2d] [annotated, mended] has one ditch below his holding overflowing causing a nuisance, therefore he is amerced. And it was ordered to them that they should mend the said ditches before the feast of the Nativity of the Lord [December 25th] under a penalty for each of vjd [6d]. And that John Ussher, ijd [2d] the miller, took toll by a measure without a seal, therefore he is amerced. And that John Abel xijd [12d] came into the enclosure belonging to John Goffe and took one cow valued at vs [5s] outside the said enclosure without permission and against the peace of the lord King. Therefore he is amerced. Amercement ijd [2d] penalty Also they present that John Goffe has one ruined and defective Bakehouse. Therefore he is at mercy. And it is ordered that he should put it right it before the next [court] under a penalty of half a mark [6s 8d]. Amercement xd [10d] William Wryght vjd [6d] the younger has not put right one grange on the holding that [was of] Robert Reve, as he was ordered in the preceding court. Therefore he is amerced. And still it was ordered to him to put right the said building before the next [court] under a penalty of half a mark [6s 8d]. William Deye iiijd [4d] [annotated] who has not put right one grange with thatch as he was ordered in the last court, therefore is amerced. And it was ordered to him to thatch the said grange before the next under a penalty half a mark [6 8d] Defective buildings Also they present that one Insethouse, j [1] grange and j [1] pair of timbers are ruined and defective on the holding lately belonging to John Rydere the younger which is still in the hand of the lord, because of lack of tenant. Therefore it was ordered that the bailiff should repair and put right the said holding, being responsible to the will of the lord. And that the holding which lately belonged to Felicia Prentys is defective and devastated and remains in the hand of the aforesaid lord. And that the tenement which lately belonged to Thomas Tele is ruined. And that the tenement called Paysys which lately belonged to Richard Lygtfot is ruined and devastated and remains in the hand of the same aforesaid lord. Therefore the bailiff is ordered to repair and put right the aforesaid tenements as above etc. And that one Cottage with an adjacent croft which lately was held by John Brook is ruined and defective and all the goods and chattels of John himself should be seized by the bailiff for the repairs of the said Cottage. And afterwards Robert Partrych came and undertook to well and completely repair and put right the building of the aforesaid Cottage. Therefore he was ordered to put right and make repairs to the said Cottage before the next [court]. Amercements vd [5d] John Bande the elder and Robert Partrych, the Constables, present that Agnes Carter justly called the hue on Felicia Ridere iijd [3d] by the pledge of the constables and the constables ijd [2d] have not amerced [her] and they are amerced. Amercements ijs ijd [2s 2d] John Bande the younger and John Myton, tasters of ale, present that John Rudland vjd [6d] ij [2], Thomas Starlyng vjd [6d] ij [2], William Starlyng iijd [3d] j [1], John Bande the elder iijd [3d] j [1], and John Goffe viijd [8d] constantly, brewed and sold ale and broke the assize therefore they are amerced. Heriot of one horse valued at xijs [12s] Grant, premium xvjd [16d], fealty Richard Lygtfot who held one Messuage and half a virgate of land from the Lord by service and xiijs iiijd [13s 4d] and other services, according to the custom of the manor, came to this Court and surrendered the aforesaid holding into the hand of the lord. After this surrender a heriot of one horse valued at xijs [12s] fell due to the lord and is rendered to the bailiff. And on this Thomas Starlyng came and took the aforesaid holding from the lord. To be held by the same Thomas and Katherine his wife for the terms of their lives according to the custom of the manor, Rendering and making therefrom annually to the lord just as the just as the aforesaid Richard customarily rendered and made. And the said Thomas and Katherine will maintain, sustain, repair and put right the said holding at their own cost and expense. And they are not allowed to hand over the said holding, or any part of it, to anyone without permission from the lord. And they gave xvjd [16d] to the lord as premium and made fealty. sworn men John Gostwyk Adam Warde John Palmer’ John Maryon John Rudland John Warner the younger Robert Myton John Norman Thomas Stoughton John Warner John Passewater John Goffe They present that Thomas Roger, vicar of the church at Aylesbury in the County of Buckinghamshire, on the Tuesday next after the feast of the Nativity of our Lord [December 25th] in the vijo [7th] year of the reign of Henry V came within the Warren of the lord at Welyngton in the county of Bedford and hunted in the aforesaid warren and took at least xx[20] pairs of rabbits. Therefore a writ is prosecuted against the said Thomas etc. Assessors of fines, John Bande the elder, Robert Myton Sum xxxs xjd [30s 11d] And in the expenses of the chief steward being there for one day and one night and all other supervisors, in cash, iijs iiijd ob [3s 4½d]
