And that the Prior of Newnham, Simon ijd [2d] Kyng, Roger ijd [2d] Kempston, John ijd [2d] Frelove, Robert ijd [2d] Cook made default and therefore were amerced. Stray, one bay horse, valued at vs [5s], the bailiff is answerable Also they present one bay horse, valued at vs [5s] was taken into the lady’s liberty as a stray about the feast of St. Michael [29th September] in the twelfth year of the reign [1411] and a proclamation was made and none came and the same horse remained in the keeping of John Palmer. Therefore it was ordered that he should hand over said horse into the keeping of the bailiff who is answerable to the lady Stray j [1] calf valued at xviijd [18d], amercement ijd [2d] the bailiff is answerable Also they present that one calf valued at xviijd [18d] was taken into the liberty of the lady by Robert Akyrman as a stray about the feast of St. Martin [10th or 11th November] in the twelfth year [1410]. A proclamation was made and none came. And the said Robert unlawfully kept the said stray and is amerced. And the bailiff was ordered to raise the value of the calf, that is to say xviijd [18d], from the goods and chattels of the said Robert, thence he is answerable for it to the lady, and that he said it was dead, as witnessed. Amercement xviijd [18d] It was presented that John ijd [2d] Cartere the younger has one weir overflowing below his holding causing nuisance. He is at mercy. And he was ordered to put it right before the next [court] under a penalty of xijd [12d]. And that John ijd [2d] Smith has one weir overflowing below his holding causing nuisance. Therefore he is at mercy. And he was ordered to put it right before the next [court] under a penalty of xijd [12d]. And that Amisia ijd [2d] Fesound is a common scold and disturber of the peace, therefore she is amerced. And that John iijd [3d] Longhar’ broke into the house of John Crakewell against the peace and therefore he was amerced. And that William iijd [3d] Webbe broke into the house of Robert Fesound against the peace and therefore was amerced. And that Joan, wife of the said Robert lawfully called the hue on the said William iijd [3d] therefore he is amerced. And that John iijd [3d] Cartere the younger stole from John Gostwyke, against the peace, and was amerced. Oaths Thomas servant of John Bande, John Norman the younger, Thomas Myton, Walter Yarwey, Richard Smyth, John Myton, and John Darby took their oaths and joined tithings. And there is a day for John penalty xs [10s] + Storges for an Insethouse etc. Defective houses, penalties William Webbe was still ordered to well and sufficiently make and put right one room and j [1] grange before the next [court] or under the penalty of forfeiting the land and tenement that he has to the lady Day, penalty John Fylle and his pledges were still ordered to well and sufficiently make the Mill Dam before the next [court] under a penalty of xl pounds [£40} Day, penalty Adam [annotated 'mended'] Warde, and his pledges, that is to say Robert Myton and Thomas Sherborn, were still ordered to well and sufficiently repair his ruined buildings before the next [court] under a penalty of xls [40s] Grant, fealty To this court came Elena, wife of John Gras’ and claimed to hold from the lady, her own [torn edge] according to the custom of the Manor, one messuage and half a virgate of land and a quarter of land by paying xxs [20s] and services annually. And it was granted to her and she made fealty. Grant [torn edge] xiijd [13d] To this court came John Akyrman and took from the Lady one Messuage and half a virgate of land which were lately held by William Ropere. To be held by the same John by Court roll for the term of his life according to the custom of the manor, rendering and making therefrom annually services and customs as of old. And the said John will maintain, sustain, repair and put right the said holding at his own expense, except taking large timber from the lady, by the pledge of Robert Akyrman and Richard Lytefot’. And he gave the lady xiijd [13d] as premium and made fealty. The twelve sworn men present that the constable, tithing men and tasters of ale presented well and faithfully and concealed nothing.
