    Roll 9b Court held there on Monday next before the feast of St. Dunstan in the ninth year of the reign of Henry lVth [14 May 1408] The homage amercement ijd [2d] penalty ++ They present that John + Smyth has ruined and defective houses. Therefore he is amerced. And it was ordered that he should put [them] right before the next [court] under a penalty of xld [40d]. And they present that Adam Warde [annotated 'mended'] and Thomas ++ Tele should mend their ruined buildings before the next [court] under a penalty of xld [40d] for each. Herriot one cow valued at vs [5s], the bailiff is answerable, fealty And that William Tele, who held one Messuage and half a virgate of land from the lady, according to the custom of the Manor, by service, closed his existence following the day of the last Court, after whose death a new heriot of one cow valued at vs [5s] falls due to the lady and remains in the hand of the bailiff who is answerable to the lady. And afterwards Matilda wife of the said William came and claimed to hold the said holding, according to the custom of the Manor to carry on alone and she was free and therefore took possession. And she made fealty. Heriot of one heifer valued at xld [40d] the bailiff is answerable, fealty And that Richard Fesound’ who held one cottage from the lady, according to the custom of the manor, closed his existence after the day of the last court, after whose death a new heriot of one heifer valued at xld [40d] falls due to the lady and is rendered into the hand of William Rydere, the bailiff, answerable to the lady. And afterwards came [blank] the wife of the said Richard and claimed to hold the said holding, according to the custom of the manor, and she was free and took possession. And she made fealty. Amercement iijd [3d] penalty And that John Fylle, the miller, has a broken mill-pond and the same John owes grain to the lady. Therefore he is amerced. And he and the pledges were ordered to put right the said pond by the Nativity of St. John [24th. June] under a penalty of vs [5s] Grant, fine vjd [6d] fealty To the same Court came Matilda Webbe, through John Webbe her son, [illegible] and surrendered one cottage into the hand of the lady, after which surrender no new heriot fell due to the lady. And on this John Stonrygge has come and took the said cottage from the lady. To be held by the same John by Court roll, according to the custom of the Manor. Rendering therefrom to the lady ijs [2s] a year [illegible]. And the said John will make repairs and put right the said holding at his own expense except for large timber. And for this he provided pledges, that is to say Thomas Heryng and Thomas Sherborn. And he gave the lady vjd [6d] as entry fine, And he made fealty. Plea cancelled John Myton who has a plea of debt from Simon Shepherde, and the said Simon has accepted ij [2] ewes, valued at ijs [2s] and has not come. Therefore the time and the plea are cancelled. Thomas Rydere who has a plea of debt from the same Simon. And the said Simon has accepted ix [9] ewes, hoggs and maiden ewes and has not come. Therefore the time and the plea are cancelled.
