    Quitclaim, for 5 shillings: Joseph Carter of Silsoe, butcher (eldest son and heir of Samuel Carter of Clophill, gentleman), to John Carter (son of Samuel Carter), of Southwark in parish of St Mary Overies, Surrey, brasier, and John Bourne of Biggleswade, innholder, and wife Ann (daughter of Samuel Carter). Recites will of Samuel Carter, dated 3 April 1738, which itself recites that he has surrendered by William Linford and Sarah Wheeler (tenants), all his property copyhold of the Manor of Clophill and Cainhoe, on 31 May 1734. Devises to eldest son Joseph his messuage in Clophill called the 'Cross Tree' house, some parts being in the occupation of Abis Wheeler and Widow Gurney, charged with payment of £10 to son Edward, and provided that said Joseph delivers to testator's son John and daughter Ann Bourn (wife of John Bourn of Biggleswade, innholder) all other property of testator, except a cottage in Clophill in the occupation of Richard Robinson, adjoining to the garden of the messuage in which testator dwells, which he devises to son Edward. And bequeaths to his daughter Sarah Line (wife of Henry Line of Clophill, husbandman) £50 to be paid by said John Carter and Ann Bourn.
