- Scope and ContentWilliam Warner of Luton, boot and shoemaker – he lives in Park Street, Luton. At about 10.30am on Wednesday 10 May Wickhamb came to his shop and asked to look at some boots. She said she wanted 2 or 3 pairs for the landlady at the Hare and Hounds to try on. She said she would bring the money and shoes back in a few minutes. She took a pair and 2 odd ones, the same boots as the ones produced. He later found she was in custody. Harriet Arnold of Luton – she is the wife of Charles Arnold, landlord of the Hare and Hounds, New Town Street, Luton. On Tuesday night 9 May Wickhamb and a young man came to lodge at her house. She did not sent Wickhamb out anywhere for boots for her to try on. In consequence of what she heard from Mr Warner her husband gave Wickhamb into custody. Alfred Mayes of Luton, police constable – on Wednesday 10 May he took Wickhamb into custody in Castle Street. He brought her to the police station and charged her. She said she fetched the shoes because she had none to wear and if she could have found her old man she would have got the money for them. She was wearing the pair. The two odd ones were in the pocket of her dress. He sent for Mr Warner who identified the boot and the woman who took them. Susannah Wickhamb – has nothing to say.
