"Cawses shewed by Richard Sowthwell Gent whye he sholde not be comytted unto the Fleete in execucon accordinge to an order of the 8th of June, Anno 36 Eliz I [1594]" Whereas the saide Richarde Sowthwell for the Debte of his brother Thomas Sowthwell became so receyved by him for the debte of £1100 the some of £936.3s.5d.

Received also by Mr Bedingfield, his farm or vizt Mr Vallence and Mr Scmermere over and above the formes, receipts of the certain revenues of my lands the somme of £4596.6s.5d. Received by Mr Bedingfield and his executors farmers to Mr Wylmer oute of my lands in Norfolk £540.6s.3d. £5039.13s.8d. Received in all by Mr Wilmer and his farmers for the pryncypall debtes of £1,000 £2,975.18s "Mr Wylmer was contented under his hande in wrytinge to accept of Mr Sowthwell for all demands due to himself and for statute of £400 acknowledged by Mr Sowthwell unto Anthony Roper the some of £1,800 yet contrary to that agreement Mr Wilmer fyndinge the sweetenes of the lands goethe about to laye Mr Ropers statute of £400 uppon the bodye of Mr Sowthwell and also to detayne his lands still in extent notwithstandinge all his former unconscionable receipts" In tender consideracon whereof may yt please your honour in regard of your many waightal affayers and for the relief of a pooer distressed prysoner to appoynt such indifferent persones as your Lordship shall thincke good to heare and consider of these clauses and thereof to certyful your honour unto whose honorable censure I humbly submitt myself and my cawse.
