  • Scope and Content
-- to eight younger children, £1000 each at age of 21, to be paid out of his real estate. -- all manors and estates in Bedford, Leicester, Suffolk, Huntingdonshire, Cambridgeshire and Ely (except estates to descend to his heirs as tenant in tail of Paulet St John Earl of Bolingbroke, and estates settled on his wife as jointure): to wife Jane St John for her maintenance until she shall be paid £1000 for each of his younger children, then to use of Oliver St John his eldest son, and his heirs; after wife’s death, to Sir James Robinson and Sir Gilbert Pickering as trustees to use of son Oliver and heirs. Legal Opinion: advising Sir St Andrew St John, heir to trust estate following death of testator and of Oliver St John, to exhibit in a Court of Equity a Bill for discovery of title deeds of the estate, since ‘the Lady St John his mother by vertue of this will possessed herself of all the real and personal estate and will not allow the said St Andrew St John any maintenance . . . she will maintain herself and younger children with the estate during her lifetime’.
