- Scope and ContentOn 21 September he was at the Old English Gentleman public house in Hitchin Road, Luton in the company of John Palmer and Charles Shane. They drank together for some time before leaving. Shane then made a communication to Palmer and in consequence, all 3 went along Crescent Road as far as the Midland Railway Company ‘meadow’. Then all 3 got over the fence where they found 2 heaps of plait. They picked up the plait and took it along Crescent Road. Shane went in advance to look out for police. They took the plait to Phineas Hill’s house and left it there until the following morning. They sold the plait to Nelson Haywood for £4 5s 0d, which they divided 3 ways. John Palmer agreed with this statement.
