    John Benjamin Twitchell: on 10 July he was at the Bedfordshire Agricultural Show at Biggleswade. Whilst standing at the water jump he felt something near his left hand trouser pocket where his purse was. He missed his purse and followed the man who was near him but did not charge him directly. He was afterwards informed a man had been taken into custody at the gate. The prisoner was searched in his presence and the purse containing £1 8s 3d and railway ticket were found upon him. George Malden: on 19 July he was attending the Agricultural Show at Biggleswade and during the water jumps he was stood about 4 yards behind Mr Twitchell. He saw two men pressing against Twitchell in a suspicious manner. The prisoner was one of his men and was not looking at the jumping but looking down. He had been watching the prisoner in consequence of a remark made to him by a friend. Ebenezer Cain: a sergeant of police who was on duty at the Agricultural Show in Biggleswade. About 5pm the prisoner was pointed out to him as a man who had picked a pocket. He caught the prisoner and searched him and found in his coat pocket a purse. Mr Twitchell came up and said he believed that the prisoner had his purse. The prisoner was charged. Statement of the accused: nothing to say.
