    Charles Fox: a shoemaker with a shop in Biggleswade. On 11 Septmber the prisoner came to the shop and told him Mr Whte, her master, had sent her for a pair of boots for herself. He fitted a pair of boots on her and she took them away. They were worth 6s 6d. Ireland said Mr White would pay for them. On 2 October he saw Mr White and asked him about them but White denied having given the prisoner permission. He advised the police. Frederick White: an ironmonger and the prisoner had been in his employment up to 29 September. She had not been instructed to obtain boots from Mr Fox at anytime, nor did she tell him she’d done so. Joseph Thomas Cross: a police constable stationed in Biggleswade. On 2 October he was advised the prisoner had obtained boots in Mr White’s name. He went to the prisoner’s house and asked her if she fetched boots from Mr Fox in September. She said she had and he was given the boots. She was taken into custody. Statement of the accused: nothing.
