    George Hills: a blacksmith residing at Biggleswade. The prisoner had started to lodge at the White Hart public house in Biggleswade in the early part of February, working as a jobbing watch and clock cleaner. On 13 March he gave the prisoner a silver watch to repair. He was told he could have it on the Saturday. On 17 March he went to the White Hart and found he had gone away the previous day. George Sanders: a pawnbroker’s assistant in the firm A.C. Lucombe of 201 Seven Sisters Road, Finsbury Park, London. On 16 March the prisoner pledged a silver watch and 7s was lent upon it. The prisoner gave the name John Smith. Frederick Smith: on 23 March he took the prisoner into custody on another charge. He then went to the prisoner’s house and found 3 pawn tickets. Statement of the accused: nothing to say.
