- Scope and ContentGeorge Garner: a farmer of Sandy Lane in Leighton. He kept about 20 fowls, among them a game hen. On 27 March, Superintendent Shephard brought to him a game hen which was similar to his. He went with Superintendent Shepherd to the farm yard and Shepherd put the bird down. The other fowls had already gone to roost. The game fowl quickly went to roost with the other fowls. It seemed quite at home. He had not discovered his fowl was missing. William Shepherd: on 27 March he received information that the prisoner had a game fowl on his premises. At the time the prisoner was in custody for other fowl theft. The prisoner said he had bought the game fowl about 6 weeks previous at Leighton Market from a fowl dealer, who he did not know. He went to the prisoner house and took the fowl to Mr Garner. They went to the farm yard and he put down the bird. The fowl seemed perfectly at home and within a short time found the other fowls. Statement of the accused: nothing to say
