Statement from George Peter Livius and Thomas Davies, Justices of the Peace for the Borough of Bedford that Hannah Swanson has died since the making of the Removal Order 14th May 1843. £3.7.5 to be paid by Overseers of Leighton Buzzard. Apprenticeship Indenture: Hannah Swanson of St Paul, Bedford with consent of the Trustees of the Bedford Charity doth put herself apprentice to William & Mary Moorcraft of Leighton Buzzard, straw and bonnet manufacturers, for five years, to learn their art. 5th July 1838 Examination of John Harris, Overseer of the parish of St Paul: Hannah Swanson, singlewoman, has become chargeaable to the parish of St Paul 31st March 1843 Examination of Hannah Swanson: I am about 19 years of age and am a singlewoman. On the 5th July 1838 I was bound apprentice by the Indenture of that date (now produced by Mr Leech) with the consent of the trustees of the Bedford Charity to William and Mary Moorcraft of the parish of Leighton Buzzard in the County of Bedford, straw bonnet manufacturers from the date of the same Indentures for the term of five years. I served my Master and Mistress under the said Indentures and resided with them in the said parish of Leighton Buzzard from the time of binding until the 26th day of April last when in consequence of illness my Mistress brought me to my father's house in the parish of St Paul until I could be admitted into the Bedford Infirmary. I was admitted there about a month afterwards where I remained until the Saturday after Old Michaelmas Day last, having been discharged as incurable. Since that period I have been living with my father in the said parish of St Paul, where I have been maintained at his expense and during my residence with my father I have not in any way been employed by my said Master or Mistress. I am the person mentioned in the certificate of chargeability now produced by Mr Samuel Wing. Examination by Samuel Wing of Henry Frederick Leech, Clerk to the trustees of the Bedford Charity: I am Clerk to the trustees of the Bedford Charity. I produce an Indenture bearing date 5th July 1838 wherein it is witnessed that Hannah Swanson of the parish of St Paul in the Town of Bedford in the County of Bedford with consent of Trustees of the Bedford Charity did put herself apprentice to William and Mary Moorcraft of the parish of Leighton Buzzard in the County of Bedford straw bonnet manufacturers for the term of five years from the date thereof. The deed is in my custody as Clerk to the said Trustees. Examination by Samuel Wing of John Furze: In the month of July 1838 I officiated as Clerk to the Trustees of the Bedford Charity. I was present on 5th July 1838 when the Indenture of that date now produced by Mr Leech was duly signed sealed and delivered by Hannah Swanson and William Moorcraft. The mark of Hannah Swanson and the names William & Mary Moorcraft severally let & subscribed tehreto are the proper handwriting of the said Hannah Swanson and William Moorcraft respectively and the name John Furze set and subscribed thereto as the witness attesting to the execution of the said Indenture are my own handwriting.
