Rowkins gave him 6d to pay for it. He took the sixpence and placed it on the counter in the booking office. He went outside and returned to the booking office. Rowkins followed him and laid his hands close to the 6d and placed his other hand further on the counter. Rowkins took hold of the 6d and drew it along the counter and put it in his pockets. He charged Rowkins with taking the 6d. Rowkins put his hand in his pocket and pulled it out. He said “I have it. I am very sorry. I hope there will be no harm”. Rowkins offered to pay for half a pint of beer to say nothing about it. Rowkins ran off and did not go by train. William Byers Graham, superintendent of police – he saw the prisoner today at the Borough Station. Rowkins said he knew he did wrong, that he took it but did not take it away.
