- Scope and ContentJames Linford of Luton – he is a baker and grocer in Dudley St Luton. On 3 June Deamer came to him and asked him to sell a cart he had left in James Impey’s custody in Windsor St. He asked 50s for it and agreed to sell for 40s. They were to have it when they paid for it. [Cross-examined] The cart was to be taken on Monday and paid for then. James Impey of Luton, beerhouse keeper – he keeps the Royal Oak, Windsor St, Luton. He had a cart in his care belonging to Linford. On 3 June Deamer came and asked if the cart was him. He told Deamer whose it was. In the afternoon he said he had bought the cart for 35s and offered to sell it for a small profit. Deamer said he had settled with Mr Linford for it. Punter said he had lent him 30s towards it. Punter said Deamer was his son-in-law. He would not have parted with the cart if he had not been told it had been paid for. Alfred Deamer – he bought the cart on Saturday and was to pay for it on Monday. Abraham Punter – he legally bought and paid for it. He bought the cart on Saturday afternoon.
