  • Scope and Content
John Titmas of Lower Gravenhurst, farmer – he had no knowledge of Boskett before he employed him last December. On Wednesday 7 December 1870 he was at Winslow market. He bought 2 heifer sturks there. Boskett asked him for a job to drive them to his house. He agreed with him for 3s 6d to drive them to Gravenhurst. He paid him 2s on account and he was to have the remaining 1s 6d when he got there. Boskett went away with the sturks, which were worth £6 15s. The sturks were never delivered to his house. They should have been delivered the next day. He made inquiries and found a man answering the description of Boskett had sold 2 sturks at Woburn Sands the next day. Samuel Elmer of Woburn Sands in the parish of Aspley Guise, general dealer – on Thursday 8 Dec3ember he saw Boskett going through Woburn Sands, driving the 2 sturks. He had never seen Boskett before. He assisted Boskett in turning the sturks, who appeared to be very awkward. He said he would like a couple of sturks like them and asked the price of one of them. Boskett said £4. He asked who they belonged to. Boskett said “Evans of Chalk Hill, my brother-in-law”. Boskett said he was taking them to Gravenhurst. They bargained and agreed a price of £3 17s 6d for one. Both the sturks were put into his barn. He agreed to give £7 10s for the two, paid and took possession of the sturks. Boskett said he would take the money to his brother-in-law and gave a receipt for the money. Boskett said he would be at Leighton on the following Tuesday but he has not seen him since. William Boskett – does not wish to say anything.
