    East India Company Papers - "Proceedings of the President and Select Committe at Fort St George respecting their disputes with Sir John Burgoyne and other of H.M. Officers." Letterbook, foolscap, 442pp. (This dispute relates to the relations between regular officers and those of the East India Company for reasons which are not stated, the select Committee at Fort St. George dismissed General Stuart from the Company's Senior Officer in H.m. service, to take command. Sir John Burgoyne refused to do this without a formal resignation from General Stuart. The select Committee then appinted Colonel Lang Lt. General, as they alleged in accordance with the rules regarding the relation of authority between the King's and Company's Forces laid down in the articles of war. The substance of the charges against Sir John Burgoyne are given on pp.3535-392, 395-8. The "proofs" were apparently numbered 1-59 when being sworn before John Menzies, Mayor of the Mayor's Court at Madraspatam. A key to their arrangement is given on pp. 400-401.
