    Examination of John Martin, Master of the Union Workhouse, Oundle: Richard Whitehand is now chargeable to the parish of Oundle having been admitted to the Union Workhouse on 3rd November 1842. Examination of Richard Whitehand: He is about 70 years of age and was born at Stevington, County of Bedford where his father and mother rented some land and kept four or five horses. They afterwards removed to kempston where they rented a farm at arent of £30 per year and upwards as he has heard his father say. When his father and mother removed to Kempston he was about 15 years old. He was never hired as a servant previous to his marriage hereinafter mentioned but continued to reside with his father and mother. He has never been an apprentice. He has never had any estate of his own. He has never served any parish office. He has never rented anything. He has never paid any parish taxes. He has never done anything to gain a settlement in his own right. He has never had any certificate. He was married upwards of 40 years ago to Mary Goodwin his late wife at Kempston and had by her two children, one of whom has been dead many years and the other Mary who is now living, but who he has not seen since she was a child but he believes she is not chargeable to any place. He himself is actually chargeable to Oundle in the County of Northampton. Examination of John Whitehand, yeoman, of Kempston: He is in his 63rd year and is the brother of Richard Whitehand now residing in the Oundle Union Workhouse. He recollects his father and mother being at Stevington and removing when he this deponent was 5 or 6 old to Kempston. His father rented a small farm there and paid upwards of £30 a year rent(he believes the rent was £66). His brother Richard Whitehand was living with his father and mother and continued to reside with them at Kempston up to the time of his marriage.
