- Scope and ContentCertificate stating Mary Potter was chargeable to the parish of St John and in the workhouse 8 October 1842. Removal order with suspension of order as Mary Potter unable to travel due to sickness and infirmity. Examination of Mary Potter: I am 66 years of age and am now actually chargeable to the parish of St John in this Borough. I am the widow of John Potter deceased, to whom I was lawfully married in the parish church of St John, Bedford 18th May 1800 by my then maiden name Mary Goodin. Samuel Wing, Clerk to the Guardians of the Bedford Union verified the above and states: I produce extract from the baptism register of the parish of St Mary, Bedford by which it appears that John the son of John Potter and Ann his wife was baptised in that parish 2nd May 1779 and it is a tue copy. Examination of Ann Potter: I am the mother of John Potter deceased the late husband of the pauper Mary Potter. I was delivered of him in the parish of St Mary on 26th January about 60 years ago and he was christened a few weeks after his birth in the parish church of St Mary in this Borough. He is the same person as is mentioned in the extract from the register of Baptisms now produced by Mr Wing. From about Old Michaelmas in or about 1795 for three years my said son being then unmarried was in the service of mr Benjamin Palmer (now deceased) then residing in potter Street, St mary and served him in St Mary during those three years in the capacity of a servant of all work and during that same period I saw my son from time to time acting in that capacity. Two further copies of removal order.
