- Scope and ContentExamination of Elizabeth King: I am a singlewoman aged 27 years and am now maintained in the workhouse of the Bedford Union at the charge of the parish of St Paul.I have done no act to my knowledge to gain a settlement in my own right. I have two bastard chilldren born at the house of Charles Morris in Grey Friars Walk, St Paul - Mary Ann aged 4 years and Sarah aged one year or thereabouts. Examination of William King of Harrold, labourer: I am about 53 years of age. The above named Elizabeth King is my daughter by my wife Elizabeth (heretofore Burnett, spinster) to whom I was lawfully married in the parish church of Beachampton in the County of Buckingham. About Thursday after Old Michaelmas 29 years ago. I am a settled inhabitant of Harrold. At Bedford Michaelmas fair 1811 being then an unmarried person I was hired by Mr John Goff of Harrold, farmer, for a year as a servant in husbandry at the wages of ten pounds or ten guineas and my board and lodging to commence from the day following Bedford fair. I entered in Mr Goff's service as agreed and continued and abided in the same service in Harrold until two days after old Michaelmas Day in the following year when my Master paid me the full wages and gave me a half crown over. I then went to live at Beachampton when I was married about ten years after I was married I became chargeable to the parish of Beachampton and was removed with my wife and children one of whom was my said daughter Elizabeth by an Order of the justices of the County of Buckingham to the parish of Harrold. The parish officers of Harrold received and provided for us and did not appeal against the order. I have continued to live at Harrold ever since and have been frequently relieved at the charge of that parish. Agreement from the Overseers of Harrold to receive Elizabeth King.
