- Scope and ContentExamination of Susan Conquest, wife of James Conquest: She is the lawful wife of James Conquest, who has deserted her. She was married to her said husband at Camberwell Old Church on 28th June 1829. She is legally settled in the parish of Cople, it being her said husband's settlement by birth and through his late father William Conquest who for many years was a settled parishioner there. Her said husband when about 14 years old was bound as an apprentice to his father for 7 years as a carpenter, he served the whole of his time and slept during the same in his fathers house in the above parish. Since her marriage her husband has never rented a house by the year or done any act by which he could have gained a subsequent settlement. She has dependent upon her, by her said husband, five children viz. Ashelih aged 10 years, Ellenor aged 8, Mary Ann aged 7, Elizabeth aged 3 and William one year who never having gained a settlement in their own right have become with herself chargable to the parish of Camberwell. Bill for £3.5.0. from Camberwell to Cople 5 November 1841 for maintenance of Susan Conquest and her children, with receipt for same. Second copy of removal order.
