    Examination of Mary Ann Thody of 3 Pickles Buildings, Homerton, Hackney, widow of William Thody deceased, labourer. She was married to her late husband at Hackney Church about seven years ago and hath issue thereof four children namely Eliza aged 6 years, Mary Ann aged 4 years, William Richard 2 years and Elizabeth aged one month. She has together with her four children become chargeable and been relieved by the Parish of Hackney and her late husband never paid more than 2/9 per week rent to the best of her knowledge and belief. Also the examination of Elizabeth Thody the wife of Richard Thody, labourer, mother of William Thody deceased of Cardington who saith that the said William Thody deceased is her lawful son and he was born in the parish of Cardington and has never done any act to gain a settlement in his own right to the best of her knowledge and belief. She and her said husband are legally settled parishioners of Cardington by living both when single as yearly hired servants for several years up to and prior to their marriage in the said parish of Cardington. Second Removal Order - from St John, Hackney to St George, Southwark dated 4 March 1841 with statement by Robert Edwards Broughton, Magistrate of the Police Court, Worship Street, Shoreditch: It appears to me upon inquiry and examination of all the circumstances respecting the settlement of Mary Ann Thody and her four children that the said parish of Cardington is not the place of their last legal settlement. Revokes the order removing them to Cardington.
