  • Scope and Content
Examination of Henry Usher: I live at Sandy in this County. John Usher now deceased was my brother. He died about five weeks ago leaving a widow named Sarah and five children named respectively Mary Usher aged 9 years, George Usher aged 7 years, Harriet Usher aged 6 years, John Usher aged 4 years and William Usher aged two years. His widow died also last Saturday. I believe that the children of my late brother John Usher belong to the parish of Cople in the County of Bedford. To the best of my knowledge John Usher never gained or did any act to gain a settlement for himself. His father James Usher belonged to the parish of Cople. The parish of Cople are now allowing relief to two daughters of James Usher. Since my father's death which happened about four or five years ago they have several times allowed and given relief to his widow as long as she lived (which was for about six months after her husbands death) and since her decease to his two daughters. Mary, John and William three children of John Usher are now living in the parish of Sandy and not at present in a fit state of health to be removed. Information of Frank Snitch: I am Relieving officer of the Union of Biggleswade in the County of Bedford. The five children of Sarah Usher and John Usher both lately deceased named respectively Mary Usher aged 9 years, George Usher aged 7 years, Harriet Usher aged 6 years, John Usher aged 4 years and William Usher aged two years are now residing in and chargeable to the parishof Sandy. Three of them , namely Mary, John & William are now lying ill and on account of such illness are unable to be removed. Information of Henry Jeeves: I am one of the Overseers of the Poor of the parish of Sandy in the County of Bedford. I believe Mary Usher aged 9 years, George Usher aged 7 years, Harriet Usher aged 6 years, John Usher aged 4 years and William Usher aged two years are now rsiding in and chargeable to the said parish and I desire to have them removed to the place of their legal settlement.
